5 אוניברסיטת בן-גוריון בנגב הפקולטה למדעי הרוח והחברה שם הקורס: שיטות מחקר כמותיות פקולטית )הצעה קורס דו-סמסטריאלי לדוקטורנטים( מס' קורס : שם המרצה: _ יונתן אנסון יעדי ההוראה: המחשת האמירה: "צורת הרבים של 'אנקדוטה' אינה 'נתונים'" פיתוחים במהירות העבודה של מחשבים ובתכנות מאפשרים היום שימוש בסטטיסטיקה ככלי לחקור ולתחקר נתונים, ולא רק ניתוח עיוור על פי שיטות סטנדרטיות. קורס זה נועד להפגיש את הסטודנט עם האפשרויות האלה, ולתת בידיו כלים בסיסיים להבנת תהליך תיחקור זה. לקורס ארבע חלקים מרכזיים: עקרונות הניתוח הכמותי, דרך הסטטיסטיקה הבסיסית המודל הליניארי המוכלל מודלים רב-שכבתיים גישות לא רגרסיוניות לאורך הקורס הדגש יהיה על ניתוח נתונים באופן מעשי ופענוח התוצאות. הגישה תהיה של קריאה ביקורתית, הן של הנתונים, והן של התוצאות: האם הנתונים נאספו באופן אמין? האם הם מתאימים לשאלה המחקרית? האם הם מתאימים לשיטת הניתוח שנבחרה? אילו הנחות סמויות עומדות מאחורי שיטת הניתוח והמסקנות שנתקבלו? והאם ניתן לפרש את התוצאות בדרך אחרת? יילמדו עקרונות שיטות החישוב, לא דרך החישוב עצמה )אותה נשאיר למחשב ומתכנתיו( ולכן לא נדרש ידע במתמטיקה מעבר לתיכון!

31 SYLLABUS: HISTORY AND PHILOSOPHY OF SCIENCE AN INTRODUCTION Lecturers: Prof. Ute Deichmann, PhD, Prof. Michael N. Fried, PhD The one semester course will be taught in English. Requirements: Class attendance, assigned readings, and participation in discussions, assigned class presentation or written exam The course will begin with an introduction into the philosophy of science and the notions of scientific change. In this section we need to introduce questions about the objects of scientific inquiry, the nature of scientific knowledge, and the methods by which scientific knowledge is acquired. Ideas of philosophers such as Bacon, Popper, Polanyi, and Kuhn will be presented and discussed. Starting with the theories about nature and what nature meant in Greek antiquity, the course we will then examine major changes in the history of astronomy, physics, chemistry, and biology until the 21st century. Among them are the scientific revolution in the Renaissance (e.g. Galileo), the chemical revolution in late 18th century (e.g. Lavoisier), Darwinism, the rise of genetics, and the development of modern atomism, quantum mechanics, and molecular biology. The intention is not merely to give a chronology, but to gain insight into the changing character and objects of science. General questions concerning legitimate scientific objects and means of inquiry, scientific progress and the importance of individual personalities, ideas as well as the interaction of science, society, and politics will be discussed, both, generally and by way of examples. Teaching methods: The course will be mainly based on lectures. In addition, students are asked to read and discuss the reading material, and students are asked to give a short presentation on an assigned topic or write an exam.
