EACH OF US enters this sanctuary with a different need. Some hearts are full of peace and gratitude, overflowing with love and joy. They are eager to confront the day, to make the world a better place. They are recovering from illness, or have escaped misfortune. We rejoice with them. Page 184

Some hearts ache with sorrow; Disappointments weigh heavily on them. Families have been broken; loved ones lie on a bed of pain; death has taken a cherished loved one. May our presence and caring bring them comfort. Page 184

Some hearts are embittered: ideals are betrayed and mocked, answers sought in vain, Life has lost its meaning and value. May the knowledge that we, too, are searching restore our hope, and renew our faith. Page 184

Shehu asanu k'shomrei haadamah v'hu samanu kishlichei hatorah Shehu sam chayeinu itam v'goraleinu im kol haolam. שׁ הוּא ע שׁ נוּ כּ שׁוֹמ ר י ה א ד מ ה ו הוּא שׂ מ נוּ כּ שׁ ל יח י ה תוֹר ה שׁ הוּא שׂ ם ח י ינוּ א תּ ם ו ג ר ל נוּ ע ם כּ ל ה עוֹל ם. who made us messengers of Torah and guardians of the Earth. Vaanachnu kor'im umishtachavim umodim, lifnei Melech, malchei ham'lachim HaKadosh Baruch Hu. ו א נ ח נוּ כּוֹר ע ים וּמ שׁ תּ ח ו ים וּמוֹד ים, ל פ נ י מ ל ך מ ל כ י ה מּ ל כ ים, ה קּ דוֹשׁ בּ רוּ ך הוּא. Therefore we bend our knees, bow, and give thanks to You, Ruler of all rulers, the Holy One of Blessing.

V'ne-emar, v'hayah Adonai l'melech al kol haaretz. Bayom hahu yih'yeh Adonai echad ush'mo echad. ו נ א מ ר, ו ה י ה י י ל מ ל ך ע ל כּ ל ה א ר ץ, בּ יּוֹם ה הוּא י ה י ה י י א ח ד, וּשׁ מוֹ א ח ד. And as it is said, Then Adonai will rule over all the earth. On that day, Adonai will be One, and God s name will be One.
