It was after this א ו י הי מ א ח רי כן and Avshalom made for himself chariots and horses and fifty men were running before him. ו יּ עשׂ לו א ב שׁ לו ם מ ר כּ בה ו ס סים ו ח מ שּׁים אישׁ ר צים ל פ ניו: Avshalom would arise early ב ו ה שׁ כּים א ב שׁ לו ם and stand next to the gate and it was every man who had a fight (who needed) to come to the king for judgment, Avshalom called to him and he said, Which city are you from? He said, ו ע מּד ע ל י ד דּ ר ך ה שּׁ ער ו י הי כּ ל ה אישׁ א שׁ ר י ה י ה לּו ריב ל בו א א ל ה מּ ל ך ל מּ שׁ פּט ו יּ ק רא א ב שׁ לו ם א ליו ו יּ אמר א י מ זּ ה עיר א תּה ו יּ אמר
From one of the tribes of Yisroel is your servant. מ א חד שׁ ב ט י י שׂ ר אל ע ב דּ ך: Avshalom said to him, ג ו יּ אמר א ליו א ב שׁ לו ם See you words are good and correct, (however) you have no one to hear you from the king. ר אה ד ב רי ך טו בים וּנ כ חים ו שׁ מ ע א ין ל ך מ את ה מּ ל ך: Avshalom said, ד ו יּ אמר א ב שׁ לו ם Who will make me a judge in the land? And upon me each man would come who would have מ י י שׂ מ ני שׁ פט בּ א רץ ו ע לי י בו א כ ל אישׁ א שׁ ר י ה י ה לּו a fight or judgment ר יב וּמ שׁ פּ ט
and I would judge him correctly! ו ה צ דּ ק תּיו: It was when a man came ה ו ה יה בּ ק ר ב אישׁ to bow to him, and he would extend his hand and he grabbed him and he kissed him. ל ה שׁ תּ ח ו ת לו ו שׁ ל ח א ת י דו ו ה ח ז יק לו ו נ שׁ ק לו : Avshalom did ו יּ עשׂ א ב שׁ לו ם ו like this thing for all of Yisroel who would come to judgment to the king and Avshalom stole (i.e. deceived) the heart כּ דּ בר ה זּה ל כ ל י שׂ ר אל א שׁ ר י באוּ ל מּ שׁ פּט א ל ה מּ ל ך ו י גנּ ב א ב שׁ לו ם א ת לב
of the people of Yisroel. א נ שׁי י שׂ ר אל: It was at the end of forty years ז ו י הי מ קּץ א ר בּ ע ים שׁ נ ה and Avshalom said to the king, I will go please and I shall pay my vow that I vowed to Hashem in Chevron. ו יּ אמר א ב שׁלו ם א ל ה מּל ך א ל כה נּא ו א שׁ לּם א ת נ ד רי א שׁ ר נ ד ר תּי ל יהו ה בּ ח ב רו ן: For your servant made a vow ח כּ י נ דר נ דר ע ב דּ ך when I sat in Geshur which is in Aram saying, If Hashem will return me to Yerushalyim, בּ שׁ ב תּי ב ג שׁוּר בּ א רם ל אמר א ם י שׁיב [י שׁו ב] י שׁ יב ני י הו ה י ר וּשׁ לם
I shall serve Hashem (by bringing sacrifices). ו ע ב ד תּי א ת י הו ה: The king said to him, ט ו יּ אמ ר לו ה מּ ל ך Go in peace. He got up and he went to Chevron. ל ך בּ שׁ לו ם ו יּ קם ו יּ ל ך ח ב ר ו נה: Avshalom sent spies י ו יּ שׁ ל ח א ב שׁלו ם מ רגּ לים amongst all the tribes of Yisroel saying, When you hear the sound of the shofar you shall say, בּ כ ל שׁ ב טי י שׂ ר אל ל אמר כּ שׁ מ ע כם א ת קו ל ה שּׁ פר ו א מ רתּם מ ל ך א ב שׁ לו ם בּ ח ב רו ן: Chevron. With Avshalom יא ו א ת א ב שׁ לו ם two hundred people went from Yerushalyim, they were called and going in their innocence and they didn t know anything. ה ל כוּ מ את ים אישׁ מ יר וּשׁ לם ק ר אים ו ה ל כים ל ת מּ ם ו ל א י ד עוּ כּ ל דּ בר: Avshalom sent יב ו יּ שׁ ל ח א ב שׁלו ם Achitophel of Gilo the advisor of Dovid from his city from Giloh when he slaughtered the sacrifices. (siding) with Avshalom. א ת א ב שׁ לו ם: The speaker came יג ו יּב א ה מּ גּיד to Dovid saying, The heart of the men of Yisroel was after Avshalom. א ל דּ וד ל אמר ה י ה ל ב אישׁ י שׂ ר אל א ח רי א ב שׁ לו ם: Dovid said to all his servants ו יּ אמר דּ וד יד ל כ ל ע ב דיו who were with him in Yerushalyim, Let us get up and run away א שׁ ר א תּו ב יר וּשׁ לם קוּמוּ ו נ ב ר חה for we shall not have a refuge because of Avshalom. Hurry up to go, lest he will hurry כּי ל א ת ה י ה לּנוּ פ ל יטה מ פּ נ י א ב שׁ לם מ ה רוּ ל ל כת פּ ן י מ הר
and he will catch up to us and he shall cast upon us the evil and the city shall be hit by the edge of a sword. ו ה שּׂ גנוּ ו ה דּ יח ע לינוּ א ת ה ר עה ו ה כּה ה עיר ל פ י ח רב: טו ו יּ אמ רוּ ע ב ד י ה מּ The servants of the king said ל ך to the king, Like all which our master the king shall choose, behold are your servants. א ל ה מּ ל ך כּ כל א שׁ ר י ב חר א ד ני ה מּ ל ך ה נּ ה ע ב די ך: The king went out טז ו יּ צא ה מּ ל ך and his entire household on their feet (i.e. by foot). And the king left ו כ ל בּ יתו בּ ר ג ל יו ו יּ ע זב ה מּל ך
the ten concubine wives to keep watch on the house. א ת ע שׂר נ שׁים פּ ל ג שׁים ל שׁמר ה בּ ית: The king went out יז ויּ צא ה מּ ל ך and the entire nation at his feet, at they stood (to rest) at a faraway house. ו כ ל ה עם בּ ר ג ל יו ויּ ע מ דוּ בּית ה מּ ר חק: And all his servants יח ו כ ל ע ב דיו were passing next to him and all the archers and all the shooters and all the people of Gat six hundred men ע ב רים ע ל י דו ו כ ל ה כּ ר תי ו כ ל ה פּ ל תי ו כ ל ה גּ תּים שׁ שׁ מ או ת אישׁ
who had come by foot from Gat were passing before the king. א שׁ ר בּאוּ ב ר גלו מ גּת ע ב רים ע ל פּ נ י ה מּ ל ך :
